At Ocean Edge Resort’s newly-opened Frost Bar, wintertime isn’t a season. It’s a celebration! At Ocean Edge Resort’s newly-opened Frost Bar, wintertime isn’t a season. It’s a celebration! Either dine inside the restaurant for a traditional experience or book your own igloo behind The Mansion. While looking over the chilly waters of Cape Cod Bay, you can choose from a wintry selection of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and comforting entrees. The Frost Bar welcomes both guests and patrons to warm up and enjoy a range of seasonal food and drink packages. During the day, enjoy the likes of hot cocoa or warm apple cider served with crocks of New England chowder, soft pretzels, charcuterie boards, and more. Once evening approaches, choose from hot fondue pots, butter-poached lobster, cast iron s’mores skillets, and other decadent features. To complete the experience, build your own bucket of wine, beer, or Frost Bar cocktails to accompany your toasty treats. While guests dining in the igloos must choose from one of the pre-arranged packages, our a la carte restaurant is still offered inside the restaurant. To book an igloo or learn more information, please call (774) 323-6013, or send an email to dining@oceanedge.com. Over 20 years ago, Rita began working with the Corporate Sales Team at a boutique hotel in Greenville South Carolina. When a Wedding Sales Manager position became available right here at Ocean Edge, Rita was delighted to accept the offer. It was here that she discovered her true love of weddings and social events. Working with engaged couples, parents of the couples, as well as their extended family quickly became her true passion in the hospitality industry. To learn more about Rita, we asked her a few questions about her career in hospitality and her role as Director of Catering at Ocean Edge. Here’s what she had to say: What exactly does a Director of Catering at a resort do? As the Director of Catering, my primary focus is ‘all things sales’. Assisting and managing my team with sales strategies and best practices is a very large part of our development as a team. Executing weddings and overcoming challenges is extremely rewarding, with the end result of a happy couple and family! What does excellent guest service mean to you? To me, delivering excellent guest service means treating others as you would like to be treated. In being responsive, empathetic, and excited about their events, guests respond with a deep appreciation of our service. What are some of the key attractions near the resort not to be missed? The Cape offers so many seasonal activities such as tennis, golf, watersports, and boating excursions. Our resort offers these activities with the option to plan anything from beach picnics to evening bonfires. Planning a trip to Cape Cod will create memories that your friends and family will remember forever! When we say the word "hospitality", what comes to mind? "Hospitality" is such a wonderful word! To me, it means truly putting the guest first. Listening to their vision and working to execute their stay with the utmost enthusiasm of the resort’s offerings. I have always been very sincere in what I say and then work tirelessly to deliver what I have promised. What are you excited to share with our guests and couples this upcoming season? The upcoming season comes after an extremely difficult time for many couples and families that have postponed their events due to the pandemic. We will get through this together with a real appreciation for our families and for love. These events, along with the newly planned events, bring hope, and that excites me very much! Cape Cod has a long and fascinating history that's worth reading about before future trips. Cape Cod has a long and fascinating history that's worth reading about before future trips. The sandy peninsula of Cape Cod was created during the Ice Age. Because of its exposed location jutting out into the Atlantic, many early explorers visited Cape Cod. The Wampanoag people lived here for thousands of years before the Europeans arrived. The Pilgrims first landed in America on the lower tip of Cape Cod, making this a hot spot for early American history. The Pilgrims decided that this peninsula was too sandy to support their lifestyle, and they sailed across Cape Cod Bay to establish Plymouth. Cape Cod's human history has always been linked to the sea. For early Native American fishermen and the beach-going tourists of today, Cape Code has become synonymous with an ocean-loving lifestyle. In 1848, the first train service from Boston began. In the 1930s three bridges went up, and tourism on Cape Cod soared. Today, the natural landscape of Cape Cod is not enormously different from its past. Swaths of forest, dune, beach, and marsh separate small villages. Unspoiled natural beauty makes Cape Cod a dreamy destination for visitors from the mainland and worldwide. Paws up! This month, we'd like to say a very heartfelt thank you and show our support to our Cape Cod healthcare workers and first responders for their recent actions and efforts. Paws up! After coming to the U.S. 20 years ago as a student, Elena Peterson has found her passion for hospitality. As Front Office Director of Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, she supervises all areas of the front of the house and plays one of the key roles in guest experiences. A Valentine’s Day spent at Cape Cod is truly like no other experience. This year, treat the special someone in your life to a romantic Valentine’s Day that is uniquely Cape Cod. Winter Beach Walks - Cape Cod’s pristine beaches aren’t only meant to be enjoyed during the summer. With sprawling coastlines and secluded areas tucked away, there are so many peaceful beaches to walk. Whether it’s a morning walk or sunset stroll, inhale and exhale Cape Cod perfection. Indulge in a Romantic Retreat - It is your vacation after all. This year, wow your date with indulgence right here on our property. Book a romantic beach suite couple’s massage for some much-needed R&R. Then, wind out your evening with a delicious meal at Ocean Terrace, which is serving a special gourmet menu for the occasion. Find the Perfect Keepsake - For some, it’s chocolate; for others, love lies in a little retail therapy. For truly one-of-a-kind items, explore Cape Cod’s antique trail along Route 6A. With everything from antique furniture to jewelry to artwork—you can find the perfect keepsake to remember your time here for years to come. Less than an hour’s drive from our resort, Provincetown sits as one of Cape Cod’s most historic and artistic towns. Dating back to the 1600s, Provincetown was a stop for pilgrims on the Mayflower, before reaching Plymouth. You can learn more about the town’s historical significance by checking out the museum and 252-foot Pilgrim Monument towering above the town’s winding streets. For those with a love for the arts, you’ll want to check out the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, which highlights the impressive works of artists who have lived and worked in the area over the years. With peaceful beaches, nature paths, and local businesses and shops to explore, Provincetown is a fun, fulfilling day trip that the whole family will enjoy. As you explore the narrow streets of the town, you’ll see exactly why we love calling Cape Cod home. Sometimes, the journey is just as magical as the destination. See for yourself this month by making your way out to Buzzards Bay to board the annual Christmas Train. Destination? The North Pole! Experience holiday magic like you’ve never felt before as you depart the station singing Christmas tunes and cheering on the dancing elves in the aisles. On the train, enjoy fresh cookies and hot chocolate to keep you warm until you arrive in Christmas Town. Gather round the windows to look at the incredible sights and be sure to wave to Santa and his elves to get them to climb on board and say hello. This is a total must here on Cape Cod, an exciting event that everyone in the family will love. Hot Tip: pre-order your tickets online, they sell out fast! When you’re deciding where to go for your annual golf trip with your buddies, a lot is riding on your choice. You can go for a popular destination with a glut of courses like Myrtle Beach, or you can get a little more creative with your thinking. You’ll want a course that you can play several times without getting bored, and a venue that offers more than just golf. There are 24 hours in a day, after all, and sadly we can’t spend all of them on the golf course. Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club on Cape Cod offers much more than the typical hotel pool, crowded beach and chain restaurants you’ll find at many golf destinations. The unique location and natural beauty in and around the resort make it a beautiful, memorable destination. Kodak moments and one-of-a-kind attractions abound as the Cape Cod experience demonstrates why it’s a world-class vacation destination. The main attraction for a golf group outing will always be the golf course, and Ocean Edge’s 18 hole track is truly a gem. Redesigned in 2007, Ocean Edge is the only Nicklaus Design on Cape Cod. A private course that is only open to its Members and Resort Guests quickly earned a reputation as one of Cape Cod’s best golf course. It winds its way through the forested hillside and several ponds, but it’s the architecture and greens that really stand out. The signature 17th hole, an uphill, 600-yard par 5, is a monster that’ll be the key to winning your matches. A well-placed drive that avoids the cleverly placed fairway bunkers will set you up for a nice lay-up. But the approach shot to the green is no walk in the park, as a dastardly false front sits in wait to repel any shot that’s mis-hit or spins too much. It’s a fantastic course in a beautiful setting, and the spacious, inventive greens increase its replay value. Memberships are at a premium here because of the course’s impeccable conditions and high replay value. Ocean Edge offers a Stay & Play package where you will have the ability to play unlimited golf during your stay. You can stay at either The Mansion which is a Victorian-style building (perfect for history-lovers) or to The Villages, a collection of cozy villas, which is near the golf course where you can practice with your strike wedge. You can book your package directly here. Aside from golf, there are plenty of attractive options for swapping stories and setting up the next day’s bets. The Beach Bar is perched atop wooded dunes with a stunning ocean view. The Linx Tavern offers local favorites like New England Clam Chowder and lobster rolls, while the flagship Ocean Terrace is a perfect spot to down a dozen oysters and share small plates. You can get to know the local oyster industry and sample some of the freshest the sea has to offer on a signature Oyster Tour or enjoy kayaking and paddle-boarding in the calm pond waters or the more thrilling Bay Pines Beach. With a majestic golf course, numerous unique off-course activities and a wealth of dining and cocktail options, Ocean Edge Resort should be on your list for your next golf group outing. Please contact our Director of Golf Brett Gilmore for more information to book your next golf outing. We know there’s no place like home, but we like to think our property comes as a close second. This is especially true during the holidays. We pride ourselves on creating a cozy, warm, and endlessly inviting place for you to call home during your visit to Cape Cod and if your trip falls during Thanksgiving, you’re in for a special treat. Our signature restaurant, Ocean Terrace, will provide the perfect setting for a filling and festive holiday meal without any of the cleanup. While you’re taking in the serene views of Cape Cod Bay, let our expert chefs do the work in preparing a delicious Thanksgiving dinner Cape Cod-style (yes, fresh oysters are involved!). Holidays are all about connecting with those you love, so sit back, relax, and toast to a Thanksgiving you and your family won’t soon forget. Call 508-896-9000 to make reservations. Happy Haunts! It’s one of our favorite times of year—Halloween! All throughout the month of October are spooky happenings to get you into the spirit of the season. Check out a few of our favorites across Cape Cod below: Annual Pumpkin Patch: 9.a.m. to dusk daily at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church. Pick your pumpkin, enjoy sweet treats, and check out the local merch! Halloween Cemetery Walk: From the Historical Society of Orleans, take a walk through Orleans Cemetery with town historian Bonnie Snow to check out graves that date back to the 1800s. Provincetown Ghost Hunt: Check out the historic meeting house with Adam Berry, star of TLC’s “Kindred Spirits” and Syfy series “Ghost Hunters.” There will even be a paranormal seance! Haunted Forest: Head to the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to explore these haunted pines after dark. Walking tours will take groups through the spooky pines for a fun (and slightly frightful) evening! Less than a five-minute drive from our property, you can escape into a whole new world entirely. At Nickerson State Park, say goodbye to the sand dunes and salt marshes that Cape Cod is famous for and enter a world of sprawling hills, dense woodlands, and shimmering ponds formed from glaciers over 10,000 years ago. Spanning across 1900 acres, this state park is home to campsites, hiking trails, biking paths, picnic areas, and so much more. Gather your friends and family and enjoy a day (or two) of exploring the natural beauty of this special respite of Cape Cod. Start your morning off with a moderate hike—some paths even connect to the rail trail—or spend the afternoon kayaking on Flax Pond. The park even has catch-and-release trout fishing year-round! No matter how you like to retreat into nature, you can create a day uniquely you at Nickerson State Park. Most people wouldn’t expect to find a peaceful vineyard tucked between miles of unspoiled beaches and sand dunes, but that’s part of the magic of the Cape and of Truro Vineyards. Since 2007, this family-run vineyard has captivated the Cape with premium wines bursting with flavor and pioneered the art of maritime grape growing in the area. Stop into their tasting room and gift shop, housed in a restored 1830s farmhouse, or take a free guided tour of the vineyard and state-of-the-art barrel room to learn more about their winemaking process. The winery offers wine tastings every half hour beginning a half-hour after open and continuing till closing. Finish off your experience with some bites from the Crush Pad Food Truck, and relax under their new pavilion with a glass of wine in hand. The views of the vineyard and expansive ocean beyond? Priceless. From community parades to stunning firework shows, there are so many ways to celebrate the Fourth of July around the Cape! In Yarmouth, you can catch more than 30 sand sculpture creations at the annual Sand Sculpture Trail, which you can view through the summer. For community Fourth of July parades, look to communities like Falmouth’s, which will kick-off the big day with their annual parade of bikes, carriages, and even a cannonball shooting. Then, join in on nearby picnic celebrations with great food, music, and festivities. To end the night, Cape Cod goes all out with firework displays as you’ve never seen. The Falmouth Fireworks have been voted as some of the best, with fun, patriotic music to go along. You can also find fireworks along Provincetown Harbor and Pleasant Bay, where you can take cruises for prime viewing! However you spend your summer holiday, Cape Cod offers a Fourth of July you won’t forget. On the other side of the peninsula awaits an exciting coastal adventure! Monomoy Island Excursions is a family-owned business that leads visitors and locals out to the barrier island of Monomoy to go seal-watching. This wildlife refuge has become a home for thousands of harbor and gray seals over time, making each and every visit a thrilling treat. But the fun doesn’t end with the seals. On the voyage, you’ll visit Wychmere Harbor—one of the most scenic harbors on the Cape—and the Stage Harbor to get a close look at the beautiful Stage Harbor and Chatham lighthouses. On these tours, you get so much more than just animal-watching, but a real experience of the magic of sea life on Nantucket Sound. Monomoy Island Excursions runs cruises several times each day, each tour lasting an hour and a half, with a wildlife expert on board to answer all of your questions. You’ll definitely want to make time for this family-friendly afternoon adventure. This month the annual Nantucket Wine & Food Festival returns for another celebration of incredible winemakers and chefs from all over the world. Just 30 miles off our beautiful coast—and a short ferry ride away—Nantucket will buzz with excitement over five jam-packed days of tastings, seminars, dinners, and more. May 15-19, you can take your pick from select events on the all-day schedules or go all in for the entire festival, which has been held annually for over twenty years. No matter what’s on your itinerary, you’ll be able to dive head first into the distinguished and dynamic worlds of cuisine and winemaking. Meet with chefs, sommeliers, presenters, and expert speakers to gain insight into the craft and art of wine and food. With the stunning coast as the festival’s backdrop, the five-day event is simply not to be missed. With prime access to the popular Cape Cod Rail Trail, you and your family can experience Cape Cod like never before right outside our resort. With 26 miles of breathtaking backdrops and lush scenery from South Dennis to Wellfleet, the rail trail is a fun and active way to explore all over Cape Cod on your own terms. Mostly flat terrain—with some minor grades around the Lower and Outer Cape areas—you can plan a route for as little or as long as you’d like. Rent bikes right here on site from the shops on either side of our resort, and you’ll be well on your way. The rental shops offer reasonable fees, starting at $15 for two hours or $35 for a full day for adults, and $10 for two hours or $25 for a whole day for children. At first glance, Provincetown seems insignificant. Located at the tip of Cape Cod, this village is home to just under 3,000 permanent residents. Its size, however, belies its significance; and since its founding centuries ago, it’s turned into an unlikely cultural epicenter. Provincetown – or “P-Town,” as the locals call it — traces its history back roughly 400 years, when Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower docked in its harbor and signed the Mayflower Compact. Although the Pilgrims eventually elected to settle in nearby Plymouth, Provincetown was immortalized. Officially settled in 1700, the town gradually developed into its current state. P-town has something for everyone: The Pilgrim Monument, commemorating the first landfall of its namesake travelers; Herring Cove Beach, part of the Cape Cod National Seashore; and the lively, inclusive Commercial Street, to name a few attractions. It’s also a haven for the LGBT community. There’s more to Provincetown than meets the eye; and judging by some of the individuals that called it home — Tennessee Williams, Jackson Pollock, Kurt Vonnegut, and Anthony Bourdain among them — you’re bound to have a memorable visit.Reserve a Private Igloo at The Frost Bar

Elena works hard to ensure that each guest’s experience is unique by offering personalized services to make them feel right at home. She loves to share her favorite activities with guests, including golf, beach activities, whale watching, water sports, dining, spa services. "I love working with people and being in the center of the action" she explains. "What inspires me is knowing at the end of the day that I helped make someone’s stay memorable, and memories are priceless!"
To learn more about Elena, we asked her a few questions about her career in hospitality and her role as Front Office Director at Ocean Edge. Here’s what she had to say:
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you started working in hospitality.
My career in hospitality started quite accidentally when I came to the U.S. as a J1 student some 20 years ago. I worked on the Cape for a summer in a small B&B and the following year had a chance to return back. I have lived on the Cape since then and this is now my home. Working in a small B&B helped me learn all aspects of hotel operation and it definitely helped showcase one in particular: the personalized care we offer to guests. Ever since then I was hooked. I find reward in establishing relationships with our guests and I carry those friendships with me through years, no matter where I work.
What exactly does a Front Office Director at a resort do?
Front Office has a key role when it comes to guest experience, and I supervise all areas of the front of the house. We are the first ones to meet and greet guests and we are the last ones to make an impact, ensuring each guest leaves happy.
What does excellent guest service mean to you?
Personalized service is what comes to mind. Every guest is unique, and their experience should reflect that. It is our job to recognize it, be intuitive, and make every interaction with our guests meaningful.
What are some of the key attractions near the resort not to be missed?
I definitely recommend going on an oyster farm tour at the Brewster Flats. And everyone has to go on a whale watch, it’s such an incredible experience! I take my kids every year and never get tired of it.
When we say the word "hospitality", what comes to mind?
"Welcome home!" For many of our returning guests (especially during the summer season), this becomes their "home away from home." We want to be sure to cater to such traditions and keep bringing them back.
What are you excited about sharing with our guests this upcoming season?
Everything the resort has to offer—and we have so much: golf, beach fires, water sports, dining, spa, and the list goes on!
