The Doctor Is In

Dr. Heather Louks is Making “House” Calls

At The Beach House Spa, that is.

The Beach House Spa at Ocean Edge has always been a place to reset. To soften the shoulders a little. To breathe a little deeper. To remember that feeling better does not have to feel complicated.

Now, with the addition of Dr. Heather Louks, it can also go deeper.

Dr. Louks brings an exceptional level of integrative care to The Beach House Spa, blending Traditional Chinese Medicine with a modern, science-informed approach to whole-body wellness. It is rare to find this caliber of doctor-led care within a resort spa setting, and even rarer to find it delivered with this much warmth, presence, and genuine care.

Dr Heather Louks

Her path to Chinese Medicine began personally. Raised in a holistic family in Southern California, Heather grew up around herbalists, natural approaches, and a broader view of health. But her interest in acupuncture became much more personal in her early twenties, when she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and began experiencing hormonal and digestive issues. She tried a mix of Western and holistic approaches, but acupuncture was what helped her feel the most meaningful shift.

At the time, she was studying pre-med and psychology at Loyola Marymount University and considering a more traditional path to medicine. But the more she experienced acupuncture, the more she saw its potential—not only for physical symptoms, but for mental health, stress, and the nervous system.

“I felt like I could do more for people this way,” she shared.

That instinct became a calling. Heather went on to earn her master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, followed by a doctorate in Integrative Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Her doctoral work deepened her passion for bridging Eastern and Western approaches; honoring the ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine while making it feel understandable, measurable, and relevant for the modern patient. That balance is central to her work.

Heather believes in energy, intuition, and the traditional foundations of Chinese Medicine, but she also believes in research, physiology, and helping people understand why a treatment works. She is especially passionate about women’s health, cosmetic acupuncture, pain management, mental health, hormonal balance, fertility support, and nervous system regulation.

Her treatments may include acupuncture, facial acupuncture, dry needling, cupping, gua sha, sound healing, and personalized whole-body care. But the treatment itself is only part of the story. The real difference is how she listens.

Heather begins by looking at the full picture: sleep, energy, digestion, stress, medications, pain patterns, hormonal changes, and what the body may be trying to communicate. She may look at the tongue, take the pulse, and ask questions that help reveal what is happening beneath the surface. Because sometimes shoulder pain is not just shoulder pain. Fatigue is not just fatigue. And stress has a way of making itself known in the body long before we stop to name it.

For Heather, this work is deeply human. She strives to not only help patients getting out of pain but discover additional benefits in the process, be it more energy, more confidence, more momentum in their lives. That is the part she loves most: not only the relief, but what relief makes possible.

At The Beach House Spa, Heather is especially excited to offer care in a setting where people are already more open to rest. Resort guests may come in for a facial acupuncture treatment and leave with brighter skin and a calmer nervous system. Locals might opt for regularly scheduled visits designed to support hormones, pain, sleep, recovery, or stress. Someone brand new to acupuncture may simply discover that the treatment feels far more relaxing than they expected.

But facial acupuncture that’s an alternative for botox, really? It is one of Heather’s favorite treatments to offer. Designed to support circulation, collagen and elastin production, muscle tone, and overall skin vitality, facial acupuncture offers a more natural approach to rejuvenation. After strategically positioning a series of very tiny needles, Heather often finishes with facial gua sha or gentle facial cupping, creating a treatment that feels part cosmetic, part restorative, and very much in line with The Beach House Spa’s belief that beauty and wellness should not be treated as separate things.

Heather now calls Cape Cod home after moving from California following her doctorate. What began as a short sabbatical while studying for boards became something more permanent. After years in Los Angeles, she found herself drawn to the quiet, the seasons, the ocean, and the sense of community here. Let’s just say she’s a beach girl, but with better winters.

Her arrival at Ocean Edge brings something truly special to The Beach House Spa: a more complete vision of wellness, where beauty, recovery, nervous system support, pain relief, and whole-person care can exist under one roof.

Not your average spa day.

And exactly why we are so happy she is here!
