Get in the Season with All Things Fall

This month, we’d like to give you a short list of some of our favorite activities to enjoy on the Cape, from the spectacularly spooky to the delightfully delicious. Whether it’s something for the kids or the adults, or anyone in between, there’s guaranteed fun for everyone. Fall is gorgeous on the Cape no matter how you spend it, just as long as you don’t say no to some of the activities scheduled right around the corner from Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club!

Book a Haunted Cape Cod History Tour
We’ll celebrate Halloween this month, so it’s only fitting you and yours go on a haunted tour to get properly spooked. Cape Cod’s Haunted & History Tour Co leads groups out of Barnstable Village taking each excitable guest to see 10 historic and haunted places along Old King’s Highway. Some of the sites include The Superior Court House, The Hedge House, and inside The Oldest Wooden Jail in America. You’ll get to enter Cobb's Hill Cemetery, too, and while you’re there, listen to the stories that come from the other side of the grave. Exceptional to this spot, you’ll be handed a digital voice recorder as your guide teaches you how to collect EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon/voices of the dead). Once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll be free to walk the cemetery to try and capture evidence yourself. All along the way, your guide will fill your head with haunting tales of yore, ghosts and all. Tours run every night of the week except Monday and Friday. You can also book the Ghost Hunter Tour to hear haunting tales about the town. The haunted history tours are about two hours, while the ghost hunter tours are about three hours. Tickets for adults run $15 and children 8 to 12 are $8. Kids younger than 8 are free. Find your way to the Coast Guard Heritage Museum on Main Street in Barnstable by 7:00 pm.

Pick a Pumpkin on Cape Cod
In keeping with the spirit of fall and Halloween, picking out a pumpkin is a fun way to spend an afternoon. Too big for a souvenir? How about a slice of pumpkin pie instead? Cob Webb Farm in West Barnstable and Coonamessett Farm in East Falmouth have pumpkins of all sizes, plus, at Coonamessett, Peck of Dirt Bakery is serving up fall-flavored treats. Cob Webb Farm offers hayrides, and Coonamessett Farm lets you visit with its animals as well. On Sunday, October 23rd, visiting artists, Low Pressure Band will play original bluesy songs with a touch of country. Later in the month, on the 29th, Coonamessett Farm hosts its annual Halloween celebration with a blueberry maze, pumpkin painting, face painting, hayrides and other activities for costumed kids and adults! Want more? Bourne Farm, also in Falmouth, celebrates the season with Pumpkin Day, a festival early in the month, that features hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more.

Toast to Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest celebrations draw thousands of thirsty adults every year under big white tents in cities all over the country, and a few Cape Cod towns host a few of their own. We particularly enjoy Oktoberfest in Chatham with its old-fashioned games, German beer and food, live music, and more. On Saturday, October 22nd, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, at Kate Gould Park and Chatham Town Hall, find fun for the whole family with local musicians– Chatham Band, Polka Dan’s Beat Box Band, The Rafters, and Super Soulshine– keeping the beat all the while. Visiting vendors will include Captain’s Table, Chatham Harvesters, Dancing Spoons Food Truck, Depot Dogs Food Truck, Devil’s Purse Beer Garden, Fraulein’s Bakery, Little Beach Baker, MacSweets, Mom & Pops Food Truck, and Slyk Shades serving up enough chilled beer, hot bratwurst, hearty stews, and soft bavarian pretzels to keep you fueled all afternoon long. Don’t miss a walk through the larger than life Pumpkin People display in the park while you’re there– perfect for that fun fall family portrait!
Of course, should you feel the need to walk it off, or simply get out in the woods to watch the trees turn their fantastic crimson and gold, take a hike! We shared a few trails and public garden displays last month that we guarantee will satisfy your color craving throughout the season. Any questions, ask our friendly concierge when you arrive; we’ll be happy to point you toward to best activities in the area.
